5 Web Design and Search Engine Optimization SEO Tips
I get asked on a regular basis by designers and developers "what are some best practices for seo and web design?" So, I thought I would list a few here. I may add more in another post soon but here is quick list if you are wondering. NOTE: This will not be focusing on content or publisher related seo tips as much as tips for designers, webmasters and web developers.
- Make sure to have unique Page Titles or title tags for each page and keep them under or around 70 characters. Usually you don't need to add your company name or domain name in the title (I know it is a fad, but it dilutes your titles keyword effectiveness).
- Make sure to only have one H1 tag per page and that it includes pertinent keywords for that page.
- Make sure to have a unique meta description for each page and try to keep it under 150 characters.
- Not as important, but try to have unique meta keywords for each page and avoid diluting their importance by keeping them around 10 keywords or less.
- Fairly well known yet often overlooked, make sure that your domain name is registered for more than 1 year!
Feel free to add some in comments or critique what I have listed.
