Google Chrome and Website Design

So, if you haven't heard already, the new Google web browser "Chrome" is out in beta release. I have been using the browser off and on over the past week and really enjoy it. It does have a few beta bugs that I'm sure Google will take care of soon, but for the most part it is very impressive. Last time I checked (a few days ago) the browser had climbed up to 6% market share within one week of release! At that rate it will not take long for the browser to pass IE (internet explorer) and there are speculations of the browser catching up to FireFox in the not so near future. Bottom line is that Chrome offers some very nice new browser features that you will enjoy... or at least like to check out.

You can download the new browser here: Download Chrome

Down to business. The question that immediately came to my mind was "can this browser replace FireFox with all of the website developer add ons?". So I thought I would post a few of the nice tools that I did find already built into Google Chrome.
  • Google ChromeWeb Inspector is my favorite. With the Web Inspector you can rick-click on the page to quickly view and troubleshoot code issues through a nifty little pop-up window. In the screen shot I have provided on the right you can see that when you expand each section of code and click on a new layer the browser will highlight that layer for you live.

  • Task Manager. Go to the Page menu, then Developer, then Task Manager (or ctrl+esc). With the Task Manager you can view all the Chrome processes running and the resources each one is using.

  • JavaScript Debugger. Go to the Page menu, then Developer, then Debug JavaScript. Pretty self explanitory... If you don't know what it is you shouldn't be using it :)
